Nicole Canegata is a commercial, travel + lifestyle photographer with over 10 years of photography experience. Currently based in St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands, where she was born and raised, Nicole specializes in architectural, food, portraiture, wedding and special events photography. She works with a myriad of clients (see client listing below) on a spectrum of interesting projects and happy to accommodate your professional photography needs.

Nicole was inspired by her father’s photo obsession at a young age - he handed her a Polaroid camera at age 10 to take a photo of him in his military uniform - little did he know, he awoke the budding photographer inside of her. It wasn’t until she participated in Semester at Sea her senior year in college - a study abroad program where she lived on a ship for 100 days, circumnavigating the globe and visiting 10 different countries - that she caught the “travel bug” and knew photography and travel would become life-long passions. Life suddenly changed for Nicole after her Dad: Lt. Colonel, David C. Canegata III was tragically killed in combat, while serving in Iraq in 2007. Out of that grief and pain, she decided to live more fully and embrace her innate passions - she purchased her first digital SLR camera shortly after, and life has never been the same!

Her first solo exhibit, "The Traveling Lense" was the catalyst that inspired Nicole to quit her financial research job of eight years and return to school to pursue a degree in photography. After completing a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Photography at Brooks Institute in Santa Barbara, CA, she had the amazing opportunity to intern for and be published in Santa Barbara Magazine. Nicole has been a member of the Professional Photographers of America (PPA) for five years, is a freelance photographer for both Blink & Meero (global creative content production companies), and she recently joined the photography team of Flytographer (a global vacation photography company) in March 2019.

In the wedding world, Nicole was voted by The Virgin Islands Daily News, Reader's Choice: "Best Wedding Photographer of the Virgin Islands on St. Croix 2017” and has been awarded the Wedding Wire 2016, 2017, 2018 & 2019 "Couple's Choice Award." In November 2018, Nicole had the pleasure of photographing award-winning, country singer, Brett Young and his beautiful wife, Taylor Mills Young while on their honeymoon in St. Croix and her photos were published in Inspirato’s Winter/Spring 2019 Magazine.

Nicole also holds a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations from Duquesne University and currently teaches photography part-time to high school students at the Good Hope Country Day School (her Alma mater) - which brings her great joy! She was the resident artist at the Henle Gallery in 2018, and her fine art prints have been featured in several exhibitions in the USVI, Puerto Rico and California.

A traveler at heart, Nicole has visited 6 continents, 55 countries, and over 190 cities across the globe, and is available for travel worldwide. She is an avid reader, and when not shooting on location or editing her life away, you can find Nicole at the barre (Barre Fitness that is), on her yoga mat, at the beach or playing with her fur baby & puppy, Lily.
